“Howzat!?”: Aussie Paceman Chooses Toyota Camry Hybrid for Ashes Duty
You might think Australian cricket greats would have had enough of dynamic all-rounders, especially those with potent powertrains, enhanced safety and eye-catching design, after Ben Stokes’s heroics at Headingley.
But it seems not, as Aussie fast-bowling legend Glenn McGrath took delivery of an all-new Toyota Camry for his time commentating on the 2019 Ashes series in the UK.
The paceman is a Toyota Ambassador in his home country and when Toyota GB was asked to provide him with an efficient, relaxing and smooth car which could ferry him all over England along with his baggage this summer, as well as cope comfortably with his 6ft 4in frame, Camry was the obvious choice.
Widely regarded as one of the best quick bowlers ever, Glenn terrified generations of English batsmen with a devastating mix of speed and consistency. Since his retirement from competitive cricket (much to the relief of England’s top order) he’s become a respected commentator on the game as well as leading a number of renowned charity campaigns.
Glenn said: “It’s been great to be behind the wheel of the new Camry while performing my commentating duties during the Ashes. As grateful as I am to Toyota GB for their help, however, I’m still looking forward to seeing the Aussies win the remaining games in the series.”
Glenn can be heard across the BBC during the Ashes series, including on the famous Test Match Special programme which is back on the air today as the crucial fourth test in the five-match series gets under way at Old Trafford in Manchester with the series delicately balanced at one apiece.
The all-new Camry, built on a ground-breaking Toyota TNGA platform, was launched in the UK in April this year, and comes in two generously specified grades, Design and Excel, both powered by a new 2.5-litre Hybrid Dynamic Force powertrain.
