Katie Moiseeva, from Watford, wins prize in the global final of the Toyota Dream Car Art competition

31 August 2023

Katie Moiseeva, aged 11, from Watford, has won a prize in the global final of the 2023 Toyota Dream Car Art competition, with her artwork ‘Life on the Moon’.

Having already won a silver award in the eight to 11 category of the UK heat of the contest, Katie’s entry was judged against other award winners from around the world. She received a Best Finalist prize, receiving US$3,000 (£2,367 at today’s exchange rate) that she can spend on educational purposes, plus a framed certificate.

Katie’s ‘Life on the Moon’ artwork replicates places on earth to help people settle on the moon. Her dream car includes a shop and a library; it is also electric, helping to reduce emissions.

This year’s competition attracted 780,000 entries from 90 countries. The aim of the contest is to inspire and encourage young people to think about future mobility and how it might help people and the planet. The competition final took place in Japan where the judges included Toyota Motor Corporation representatives and independent art experts and automotive specialists.  They remarked on how the artworks illustrated issues that children worldwide are concerned about, such as care of the elderly, and of the environment, and revealed the kind of mobility they envisage for the future.

Katie commented: “I would like to say a big arigatou (thank you) to Toyota. This was a great opportunity to share my dreams of the future. I will probably buy a new upright piano, as music has always had a special place in my heart. I will also certainly buy a new set of watercolours and paint brushes. Toyota has encouraged me to never stop creating!”
