RECAP: a digest of recent Toyota news
Toyota has been breaking news about some of the exciting models that will be taking transport technology to new levels of environmental performance in the near future.
It has revealed the exterior styling of the Fuel Cell Sedan, the first production Toyota to use hydrogen fuel, starting the countdown to the car’s market launch next year. The four-door saloon, equipped with a Toyota-developed fuel cell system, will be introduced in Japan in the spring, and in Europe and North America later in the year.
This month Toyota has also confirmed its i-ROAD and COMS all-electric vehicles will be on the road in Europe for the first time, taking part in an integrated EV car sharing and public transport project in the French city of Grenoble.
Where the current model line-up is concerned, prices and specifications have just been announced for the new Yaris range. Toyota’s top-seller in the Europe has undergone a comprehensive improvement programme, drawn up and managed for the first time by its European design and engineering teams. The new-look Yaris is available to order now, with deliveries from August.
The GT86 has earned a wealth of media awards for its superb handling qualities, now the coupe is winning trophies on the racetrack, too. A Gazoo Racing GT86 took class honours in the recent Nürburgring 24 Hours, while a pair of Swiss Racing Team cars also recorded a class one-two finish.

Saryarka AvtoProm (SAP) has started assembly of the Fortuner SUV in Kostanay, Kazakhstan. Toyota is supplying complete knock-down kits to the plant as part of its programme of expansion into emerging markets.
Remember when?
The seventh generation Celica, launched 15 years ago, was destined to be the last Toyota coupe in the UK line-up until the introduction of GT86 in 2012. The final version was a front-wheel drive model with a 140bhp 1.8 VVT-I twin-cam engine and a six-speed manual transmission.
