The new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid introduces full hybrid technology to the small/city car segment for the first time, delivering both a more fun-to-drive character and greater efficiency.
Expected to have the lowest CO2 emissions of any non-plug-in car on the market** (based on projected WLTP data) it provides combination of accessibility, driving enjoyment, design and advanced safety systems.
Designed and produced in Europe, the new Aygo X Hybrid is an A-segment crossover that meets the demands of modern urban and suburban life. It maintains the fun-loving spirit of Aygo, which has been Toyota’s most accessible car in Europe for 20 years.
Aygo X has attracted style-conscious drivers looking for a compact and versatile vehicle and has proved enduringly popular with more than 287,000 being sold since hitting Europe’s roads in 2022.
The new Aygo X Hybrid expands that accessibility by offering the efficiency and flexibility of Toyota’s famous hybrid technology, guaranteeing full usability without compromises. It means more power and sharper acceleration for a more engaging – and yet more efficient – drive. Its confident stance expresses a cool urban chic, strengthened by a distinctive new grille and design features.
It is expected to achieve the lowest CO2 emissions of any non-plug-in vehicle on the market, according to projected WLTP data. It also boasts a smaller carbon footprint over the entire vehicle lifecycle compared to its predecessor thanks to its efficient powertrain and improvements in production systems and logistics.
The new Aygo X Hybrid will go on sale in the UK and the first European markets at the end of 2025. Details of the UK model range and specifications will be announced in due course.
Toyota’s smallest full hybrid
The new Aygo X Hybrid introduces full hybrid power to the A-segment for the first time, extending electrification to the smallest and most accessible vehicle in Toyota’s range, without compromising its signature condensed crossover look.
The powertrain, today available in Yaris and Yaris Cross, will fully replace the 1.0-litre petrol engine of its predecessor. Its higher power and sharper acceleration will deliver a more energetic and exciting drive.
Adapting Aygo X to accommodate the hybrid components while preserving the car’s 2,430mm wheelbase and boot space required innovative packaging. For the first time in a Toyota hybrid, the two stacks of battery cells are positioned alongside each other across the width of the floor in a longitudinal lay-out beneath the rear seats. Other Toyota hybrids use a parallel configuration, which requires a longer space. Smart packaging also sees the auxiliary battery moved under the load compartment, avoiding any loss of storage capacity.
To accommodate the larger hybrid powertrain, the front overhang has been extended by 76mm, achieved through packaging optimisation while preserving the Aygo X’s proportions.
The benefits of full hybrid technology make the new Aygo X Hybrid an ideal partner for modern city driving, with expected class-leading CO2 emissions of 86g/km*. That ensures it complies with low emission zone requirements while the extra power makes longer drives more comfortable and stress-free.
Overall system power output is increased by 43bhp (44 DIN hp) compared to the previous non-hybrid version, reaching a maximum of 114bhp (116 DIN hp)* and enabling 0-62mph acceleration in less than 10 seconds.
The Aygo X Hybrid has nimble handling for urban streets thanks to its GA-B platform and the low positioning of the hybrid battery, which contribute to a low centre of gravity and a highly rigid body. A 4.7m turning radius is ideal for manoeuvring with confidence in confined spaces.
The car is also quieter and has a smoother to ride thanks to new noise-damping components, including dash silencers, bonnet insulation and an engine underbody cover, combined with an updated exhaust system and silencer. Further noise reduction measures are featured on higher grade models, including thicker window glass and additional soundproofing throughout the body.
Safety is a priority for all Toyotas, large and small, so the new Aygo X Hybrid also benefits from a comprehensive Toyota Safety Sense safety and driver assistance package. This includes an enhanced Pre-Collision System, Lane Trace Assist and Road Sign Assist features, as well as a new Emergency Driving Stop System and Proactive Driving Assist. For the first time on an Aygo X, over the air software updates will ensure safety systems are optimised.
Stand-out compact SUV design
Aygo X’s “ready to go” attitude has been updated for the hybrid with an all-new frontal design that displays an advanced, high-tech approach while emphasising a compact SUV identity.
A new bonnet, headlights and grille create a stronger stance and the impression of a low centre of gravity. The look is enhanced by 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels, depending on the grade, and black, flared wheel arches.
Moving the shut line of the bonnet forward has created a more premium feel that’s further emphasised by the turn indicators being repositioned in the door mirrors.
The optional bi-tone colour scheme adds to the car’s dynamic presence, with the contrast black section extending seamlessly from the roof across the rear and down to the side sills. The exterior colour options draw inspiration from a ‘mellow spice’ concept, with distinctive Cinnamon, Jasmine, Tarragon, and Lavender options. An exclusive Canvas roof style, which incorporates front grille-inspired elements in a graduated pattern, is also introduced as an option on higher grades.
Despite the compact external dimensions, interior space has been maximised and a high driving position provides superior visibility. Four passengers can sit in comfort and there is space to carry anything from everyday essentials to larger luggage, thanks toa 231-litre boot capacity.
The clean interior design has been renewed, supporting an enjoyable, convenient and connected experience. A new seven-inch digital combimeter and heater control panel create a more sophisticated, modern look, while an electronic parking brake comes as standard on all grades, as do two USB-C charging ports. A new wireless smartphone charger, powered folding mirrors, and nanoeX™ technology for improved air quality are also available on higher grades (UK specifications to be confirmed later).
Introducing the Aygo X Hybrid GR Sport
For the first time, an Aygo X GR Sport version is available, bringing a more engaging drive and striking sporty look.
Inspired by the multiple world championship-winning Toyota Gazoo Racing motorsports teams, it has an exclusive Mustard bi-tone colour scheme paired with a striking black bonnet.
The grille adopts the exclusive “G-pattern” mesh seen elsewhere in the GR family, as well as GR Sport alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, black and grey accents, plus GR logo embroidery, contribute to the sporty feel.
The Aygo X Hybrid GR Sport is more fun to drive, too, with dedicated tuning of the shock absorbers and coil springs for enhanced handling and body roll control. The electric power steering has also been tuned for sharper response. These measures have been engineered to provide a more exciting driving experience without compromising ride comfort on urban streets.
A reduced carbon footprint
Toyota’s multi-pathway approach towards carbon neutrality provides a range of low and zero emission powertrain options so that regardless of where customers live or their individual circumstances, they can make a choice that helps them reduce their carbon footprint. With the new Aygo X Hybrid, Toyota opens a gateway to electrification for more people, across all vehicle segments.
Toyota estimates the new Aygo X Hybrid will have lifetime carbon footprint reduced by 18 per cent* compared to the previous, non-hybrid generation. The ultra-efficient hybrid powertrain is the largest single factor in this achievement, combined with the use of new materials and efforts to reduce the environmental impact of car production and logistics.
Every aspect of the car’s lifecycle, from design, through production and logistics to customer use was scrutinised. As an example, in-mould colour technology was applied on specific components, whereby colour is applied directly during the injection moulding. As well as achieving an eye-catching effect, this process produces lower CO2 emissions than painting.
Further emissions savings have been achieved by using recycled plastic and fabrics for new seat upholstery materials, such as the new SakuraTouch®, for an animal product-free interior.
SakuraTouch comprises more than 40 per cent*** plant-derived PVC, sourced from wood pulping by-products. It also incorporates cork chip material from the wine industry and recycled PET plastics, without compromising durability. This pioneering blend of materials reduces CO2 emissions during material production by 95 per cent compared to genuine leather.
