The Power of Three: GR86 joins GR Yaris and GR Supra to celebrate MR2 Drivers’ Club National Day
The Toyota MR2 Drivers’ Club celebrated its National Day on Sunday (29 May) at Hatton Country World in Warwick, with the new GR86 making its first UK appearance alongside its GR stablemates, GR Yaris and GR Supra.
The MR2 Drivers Club annual event, which includes all generations of MR2, attracted more than 300 members to the Hatton field. The event was not exclusive to MR2 owners, as 12 other Toyota clubs were invited to take part. These included the GT86 Drivers Club, Celica Club UK, Toyota Enthusiasts Club and three Supra Owners clubs, each representing a different generation of the model – MkIII, MkIV and the latest generation MkV. Their participation took the number of cars on view to almost 400.
The event was supported by Listers Toyota Coventry, which brought along the GR Yaris and GR Supra to complete the GR trio. Toyota (GB) organised a tombola of Toyota Gazoo Racing merchandise to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The top prize, a framed team shirt signed by the six drivers in the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Endurance Championship team from the 2019/2020 season, was won by John Shafer of Mildenhall.
GR86 is the third member of Toyota’s elite GR line-up of performance models and proved an instant sell-out with the entire UK allocation of cars being snapped up within 90 minutes of going on sale.
