The Toyota Yaris Verso

5 March 1999

A Promising New Mpv Concept

A new concept in small cars is to be unveiled by Toyota at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, 9 March.

Called the Yaris Verso, it promises to deliver the flexibility of an MPV to a new generation of small car drivers. For example, the rear seats can be folded completely flat into the floor to create a large load carrying area.

The Verso offers a tantalising insight into the future of the Yaris family. The concept car is based on the all-new Yaris, which goes on sale in the UK on 8 April in three and five door hatchback form.

“The Verso show car underlines the importance of Yaris to Toyota,” says Juan-Jose Diaz-Ruiz, executive vice-president, Toyota Motor Europe.

“It shows Yaris is not just an important new car but the beginning of a whole new generation of cars in the important small car market. Verso brings a new concept to the European small car market.

“And while Verso is at this stage only a concept, it succeeds in underlining the fact that the Yaris offers a huge number of possibilities for the evolution of the Yaris family.”

The Verso concept also reveals Toyota’s intention to extend the appeal of Yaris to customers, by offering young families a functional MPV concept combined with high standards of design and styling.

At the same time, when in future Verso turns into a real production model, it will offer the same class-leading dynamic driving package as the new Yaris. Verso will then combine passenger car qualities of comfort, refinement and individuality with the modularity and flexibility offered by MPVs.
