Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) today announced the creation of the MORIZO RR, a special edition of the GR Yaris, and unveiled an under-development prototype at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon.
The GR Yaris MORIZO RR has been created with Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman and Master Driver Akio Toyoda, aka Morizo. It benefits from insights gained through competing as Toyota Gazoo Rookie Racing (TGRR) in the 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours.
TGR, with its core mission of making ever-better motorsports-bred cars, joined forces for the race with Rookie Racing, which hones GR vehicles. Under Morizo’s leadership, they transcended organisation boundaries to form TGRR with the aim of further accelerating the making of ever-better cars.
Morizo raced the TGRR-entered No109 GR Yaris, which was equipped with Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT). When the team successfully finished the race, he was quick to praise the car and credited its eight-speed automatic transmission with enabling him to post 15 laps – more than his planned number.
The GR Yaris MORIZO RR, which takes its name from Morizo and Rookie Racing, is inspired by that experience and is exceptional for achieving a unity of car and driver, cultivated at the Nürburgring. This enhances driver-vehicle interaction and confidence while giving car lovers something to smile about and a desire to keep driving.
Production will be limited to 100 units for selected European markets and 100 units for Japan. The sales launch is scheduled for spring 2026.
Principal technical features
Nürburgring-honed suspension: benefiting from the powerful downforce generated by the exclusive carbon fibre rear wing, the suspension has been optimised to achieve damping forces that keep the tyres in firm contact with the road, including on uneven surfaces like those found at the Nürburgring. The result is performance that allows for stress-free everyday driving while maintaining sporty performance. The electric power steering control has been modified accordingly.
Exclusive four-wheel drive control mode, developed with Morizo: an exclusive 4WD control mode was developed together with Morizo. “Morizo” mode replaces the “Gravel” mode of the original vehicle and sets the front/rear initial torque and drive force distribution at 50:50.
Interior and exterior design features: the special edition features a carbon fibre rear wing – exclusive to the model – which was developed via TGRR’s participation in the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Other exterior enhancements include a front spoiler, side skirts and a carbon fibre bonnet.
The exterior colour is also exclusive to the model, a Morizo-favoured Gravel Khaki which, despite its distinctive character, blends seamlessly into everyday settings. The radiator grille has a Piano Black finish, creating a sleek and sharp and lowered look. Matt Bronze wheels complete the external look.
The brake callipers and interior stitching are in Morizo’s signature yellow colour. The steering wheel is another exclusive feature, with a suede finish, a slightly reduced outer diameter and modified paddle shifters. The steering wheel-mounted switches are laid out independently, based on lessons learned with the GR Yaris Rally2 rally car.
Each car has an exclusive serial number plate bearing the MORIZO RR logo.
