Toyota (GB) supports Skills Builder schools programme

6 February 2024

Toyota (GB) is supporting the Skills Builder Accelerator programme in five schools in Surrey and Croydon, local to its Epsom headquarters.

The company has become a Collective Impact partner, providing £15,000 of funding in the 2023-24 academic year.

Skills Builder Partnership is a global group of businesses, education institutions, and impact organisations working together to build and develop essential skills. The Partnership’s Accelerator programme supports schools and colleges to build the essential skills children and young people need for future success in the workplace, alongside their academic achievements. These are highly transferable skills such as creativity, problem solving, and teamwork.

Toyota will also be participating in staff volunteering and plan to run an employability skills day at the company’s headquarters.

Scott Thompson, Toyota (GB) President and Managing Director, said: “Toyota is committed to helping to improve the lives of local communities in which it operates, and by supporting the Skills Builder programme through local schools, we’ll be helping to overcome the skills gap, so that youngsters can gain the essential skills they need to succeed in their future careers – we look forward to seeing the results from the schools going through Skills Builder this year and also to extending this to more Surrey schools in future years.”

The five schools that Toyota is supporting during the current academic year, are:

– Undershaw Education Trust, Hindhead
– Park Hill Junior School, Croydon
– Bright Minds Creative Academy, Croydon
– Aspire Learning, Croydon
– Olympus Secondary School, Croydon.

Ruby Mir, Head of Development at Skills Builder Partnership, said: “We’re pleased to have Toyota joining us as a Collective Impact partner, working together to transform essential skills. We are grateful to our supporting organisations for making this possible through funding for Accelerator and Global Accelerator programmes for our state school and college partners to make the programme accessible to everyone.”
