GR 86 revealed

Toyota’s third GR-engineered global sports car, GR 86, has been revealed. The muscular coupe will follow in the spirit of the GT86, but benefit from a larger, 2.4-litre horizontally opposed “boxer” engine. It will join the GR Supra and GR Yaris in Toyota’s European line-up – more details to follow later this year. Read more here.

The rugged side of Yaris Cross

Building up to the launch of its all-new Yaris Cross small SUV later this year, Toyota has trailed details of a Dynamic version that will feature more rugged styling and character. Front and rear under-runs, dark grey 18-inch alloys and silver roof rails feature in the specification. Yaris Cross pre-sales will start in May prior to the model’s official sales launch in September. Read more here.

First word on the Aygo X prologue

Toyota designers have come up with a whole new look for an A-segment car, the Aygo X prologue concept. It’s a beefy SUV in miniature, capturing the kind of character and sense of fun that has made Aygo a popular hit in the city car market for the past 15 years. Toyota recently announced its commitment to building a new A-segment car in Europe; the Aygo X prologue demonstrates some of the ideas at work in its design team. Read more here.

BEV-watch

Toyota is set to reveal a new mid-size battery electric SUV at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show. The model is built on a new e-TNGA platform developed specifically for a new generation of all-electric models. Reveal date is 19 April.

Investing in a hydrogen future

Toyota Motor Europe has become a direct shareholder in the innovative French start-up EODev. The investment is representative of how Toyota is keen to work with agile young businesses to help grow the spread of applications for hydrogen and realise of zero-emission energy systems on an industrial scale. Racing talent search

Speedworks Motorsport is working with Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe (TGR-E) to help support Britain’s future GT racing stars through the new Toyota Gazoo Racing UK Young Driver Programme. Speedworks has a close relationship with Toyota, entering the works-backed Corolla in the British Touring Car Championship and the GR Supra GT4 in the national GT series. With this initiative it will give promising young talent the chance to develop their skills with access to the team and TGR-E’s state-of-the-art facilities and drivers. Read more here.

The power to heal

A mobile clinic is one of the latest vehicle concepts to be tested using Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell system. Developed by Toyota with the Japanese Red Cross Kumamoto Hospital, the clinic is based on the Toyota Coaster FCEV bus. As well as producing electricity to drive the vehicle, the system can also generate power to help run equipment when operating in disaster zones. Read more here.

Toyota has worked with partners (Toyota Tsusho and B Medical Systems) to design a vehicle equipped with a dedicated refrigerator capable of carrying vaccines at the required temperature. Based on a Land Cruiser, the vehicle is the first in the world to receive a Performance, Quality and Safety pre-qualification for medical device and equipment quality, as set out by the World Health Organisation. Who’s the fastest?

There will be another Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup international competition this year, with virtual racers now being free to swap between GR pure-bred race and road cars during the season. The eight-round series will be contested in Gran Turismo SPORT for PlayStation®4. Read more here.

Supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association

Toyota (GB) PLC and Toyota Financial Services are pleased to announce the Motor Neurone Disease Association as their new national charity partner. The companies will be launching fund-raising initiatives over the next three years to help the association in its work supporting research and those living with or affected by the disease. Formal launch of Kinto Europe

Toyota Motor Europe has officially established Kinto Europe, a limited liability company with headquarters in Cologne. The business will host the full service leasing activities previously covered by Toyota Fleet Mobility, together with all other Kinto-branded mobility services developed by Toyota, such as car subscriptions, car-pooling and multi-modal solutions.
