First word on a new compact SUV

Toyota has revealed it will add a new compact SUV to its European line-up, building the new car on the same GA-B platform as the forthcoming new Yaris. It has trailed the new model with a simple line-sketch of its silhouette, with more news to follow later. Read more here.

Kinto: Toyota’s new mobility brand

Kinto is a new brand that will cover all Toyota’s mobility services in Europe, from car sharing and car pooling to providing customers with full-service leasing for their vehicles. It’s a key element in Toyota’s evolution from a traditional car-maker into a provider of mobility. Read more here.

Rally-born GR Yaris

Toyota Gazoo Racing is the driving force behind a future new performance version of the new Yaris. The GR Yaris draws on Toyota’s World Rally Championship experience and will serve as the homologation model for its next WRC car. The potent ingredients for this “super-hot hatch” include a 257bhp turbo engine, multilink suspension and a new GR-Four all-wheel drive system. Read more here.

We’re building a city

Toyota has revealed plans to build a prototype city of the future, at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan. The new site – a “living laboratory” – will be home to around 2,000 people, scientists and researchers and will be a sustainable community, powered by hydrogen fuel cells. Read more here.

Land Cruiser Commercial Active Grade

The Land Cruiser Commercial is a tough operator, but it’s set to offer a few more creature comforts with the launch of a higher-specification Active version in the spring. The details include 19-inch alloys, dual-zone climate control and touchscreen multimedia system. Read more here.

4×4 heroes

Toyota SUVs picked up a brace of awards from 4×4 Magazine, with Land Cruiser collecting an award for sustainability, thanks to its ability to deliver year after year of hard-working service. RAV4 meanwhile collected the Best Medium SUV title. Read more here and here.

Kentucky’s finest

Rapid sales growth for the RAV4 hybrid in the USA – up 92.3 per cent in 2019 to become the year’s best-selling SUV – is being addressed with a new production line for the model at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky. It joins the Camry Hybrid, Avalon Hybrid and Lexus ES 300h in being assembled at the plant in Georgetown. Read more here.

Supra bits and pieces

The search for classic Supra spares is being made easier, with Toyota set to remake parts for the A70 and A80 models. The repro genuine components are the first to be offered through the new GR Heritage Parts Project. Read more here.

Telematics taking the stress out of insurance claims

Toyota is working with Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance to use connected car data to improve response to accidents. The new service, available from March this year in Japan, will use AI for advance accident detection that can visualise the driving route, driving conditions and driver behaviour at the time of a collision happening.
