Mighty exclusive model for Hilux’s half-century
Fifty years of the Toyota Hilux are being celebrated with an exclusive new version of the “unbreakable” pick-up in the UK. The Hilux Invincible 50 is a limited edition model prepared by all-terrain experts Arctic Trucks, with special features including raised suspension, performance dampers and a sports bar fitted with a battery of LED spotlights. Supra’s coming
Toyota has confirmed the production-ready Supra will make its public debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January. Read more here.
Hybrid production launched in Poland
Toyota has set the production lines rolling for the manufacture of hybrid transaxles in Poland. It is the first Toyota operation of its kind outside Asia and will supply components for the Toyota C-HR crossover and forthcoming Corolla hybrid models. Read more here.
British rally star Meeke to drive Yaris WRC
Kris Meeke will join the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team for the 2019 season, competing alongside established drivers Jari-Matti Latvala and Ott Tänak. Read more here.
Beloved cars
Looking to the future and a changing relationship between people and cars, Toyota planning to deploy a new “beloved car” subscription service. Called KINTO, it reflects Toyota’s shift from an automobile manufacturing business into a mobility company that can offer a wide range of different services. KINTO offers a monthly fixed-sum package for access to the vehicle of their choice for a set period of time. Read more here.
Perfect Prius
The Toyota Prius has topped the Honest John Satisfaction Index, rated by owners as the best car on the market for reliability, practicality, fuel economy, quality, safety and comfort. The index is drawn up by the consumer advice and reviews website honestjohn.co.uk. Read more here.
My Route shows the way forward for journey planning
Toyota and the Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co have started trials of My Route, a new smartphone-based journey planning service combining public and private transport options. Available in the city of Fukuoka in Japan, My Route brings together eight service providers to co-ordinate traffic, shopping and event information. Read more here.
Best of the blog: weird and wonderful at the SEMA show
The blog paid a visit to SEMA in Las Vegas, the world’s largest trade fair for the automotive aftermarket, to see how specialist modifiers have re-imagined the latest Toyota models and some past classics. Highlights include a hydrogen-powered Tacoma pick-up with a built-in pizza kitchen manned by robots and several performance-focused renditions of the new Corolla. To herald the return of the Toyota Supra, there was a special display of all the past generations, together with some customised specials. Read more here.
