Mobile power for disaster aid

Toyota and Honda are working together on a hydrogen-fuelled mobile power supply that can secure an electricity supply in a disaster zone. Called Moving e, it is based on a fuel cell bus and transports a large amount of hydrogen, portable batteries and external power output devices that can be used if conventional electricity supplies are interrupted in an emergency.   Read more here.

The new Aygo JBL Edition has been fitted with the most powerful in-car sound system yet featured in Toyota’s popular city car. The tailor-made premium audio packs 600W and features an array of five technically advanced speakers, including a beefy subwoofer in the spare wheel well. The special version also comes with a hot Electro Grey/Mandarin Pop paint finish. Read more here.

Toyota Research Institute creates global investment fund

The Toyota Research Institute – Advanced Development is launching an $800 million growth investment fund to help achieve its vision of “mobility to love, safety to live”. The new Woven Capital will be part of Woven Planet Holdings Group and, from January 2021, will invest in growth-stage companies developing new technologies and business models in areas such as autonomous mobility, automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data and analytics. GR Yaris off the line

The rally-bred GR Yaris has started production at a new Toyota Gazoo Racing manufacturing facility in Japan. Specialist technicians precision-assemble the cars on a low-volume production line that dispenses with traditional conveyor belts in favour of separate cells linked by automated vehicles. High on power

There’s a new 2.8-litre engine in the Toyota Land Cruiser, taking the SUV’s peak power to more than 200bhp and top torque to 500Nm. As well as the new block, the Land Cruiser gains a multimedia upgrade and extra Toyota Safety Sense features. Read more here.

Meanwhile the famous Cruiser name is entering space with Lunar Cruiser chosen as the nickname for the hydrogen fuel cell rover vehicle Toyota is developing with Japan’s aerospace exploration agency for future moon exploration missions. Read more here.

Toyota has been named the most reliable mainstream brand in the latest reliability survey by the consumer champion Which? Coming second behind sister brand Lexus, it has no fewer than 19 “best buy” recommendations for its vehicles. Read more here.

The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid has come top of its class in residual value predictions, with cap hpi Gold Book signalling an exceptional 51.4 per cent after three years or 36,000 miles. This vote of confidence supports affordable PCP rates for retail customers. Read more here.
