Tokyo headlines
Toyota had plenty of news about its future technology plans at the Tokyo Motor Show, presenting a series of vehicle concepts that harness the potential of electric power and hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The Fine-Comfort Ride car points to a future premium saloon, while the Sora FC bus is a concept that paves the way for more than 100 of the zero-emissions vehicles to be on Tokyo’s streets in time for the city’s hosting of the Olympic Games in 2020. Read more here.

The Concept-i Series explores how driver and car might form a growing partnership through the use of artificial intelligence. Three concepts were presented, including a slim Concept-i WALK, designed for use in pedestrianised areas. Read more here.

Other Tokyo highlights included the GR HV Sports concept, powered by a development of the racing hybrid powertrain used in Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Le Mans cars and styled with a targa roof that references classic Toyota sports cars such as the Sports 800 and Supra. The wraps also came off the new Tj Cruiser, a new SUV-van crossover concept; a Toyota Crown concept; and a new generation Century limousine. Read more here.

Customised Toyota C-HR sets supercar pace
A 600bhp version of the Toyota C-HR has scorched a trail to the SEMA custom show in Las Vegas this week. Such is the performance of this R-Tuned special, it’s claimed to be the world’s fastest crossover. Read more here.

Hilux Bruiser scales up a model legend
Toyota has honoured the legendary Tamiya Hilux radio-controlled model car by building a full-size replica version. The Hilux Bruiser, strictly a one-off, is packed with original detail, including a faithful recreation of the model’s famous “Hog Heaven” livery. Read more here.

Toyota celebrates 60 years in the USA
Toyota has come a long way since it opened its first office in the USA, in a small Hollywood dealership in California. Today it has a presence in every state, employing around 136,000 and selling cars through almost 1,500 retailers.

Aygo’s perfect performance
The Toyota Aygo has produced in a clean sheet in a new UK reliability survey, with no faults reported by any owners during the past year. The characterful city car’s remarkable achievement helped put Toyota third among Britain’s brands overall in the report from What Car? Read more here.

New star for Toyota’s World Rally campaign
Fast-rising Estonian star Ott Tänak has signed to drive for the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team next year. Twice a winner this season, he will be competing alongside current Yaris WRC drivers Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi. Read more here.

Hydrogen power on the high seas
As a pioneer of hydrogen power for the road with the Mirai fuel cell saloon, Toyota is perfectly placed to support a project harnessing clean energy for use on the ocean. Toyota France has given its backing to the Energy Observer, a boat that both generates and uses hydrogen power. Read more here.

Rallyday date for Latvala
Jari-Matti Latvala, Toyota’s World Rally Championship ace, will be taking time out from his competition schedule to appear at Rallyday in the UK, putting some classic cars from the past through their paces. The programme at the Castle Combe circuit will include an outing for the Celica ST185, one of the most successful Toyota rally cars ever built. Read more here.

Toyota continues to invest in excellence with the opening of a new $80 million Production Engineering and Manufacturing Centre in Kentucky. The new premises are designed to bring innovation and problem solving to deliver the next generation of manufacturing technology.

It’s Toyota’s aim to create a world where there no traffic accidents and where everyone can enjoy the benefits of mobility in safety.
