Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a Double Winner in the Fleet News Awards 2021

7 July 2021

The Toyota RAV4 is a double winner in the Fleet News Awards 2021, picking up the titles of Best Mid-size SUV and Best Hybrid Plug-in Car. There was additional success for the new Toyota Proace City which was “highly commended” in the Best Small Van category.

Presented yesterday at an open-air reception at Ascot Racecourse, the awards confirm the quality and capabilities of RAV4 and Toyota’s fourth generation hybrid electric technology.

In the Best Mid-size SUV category, the judges highlighted the efficiency of RAV4’s hybrid powertrain and the availability of a plug-in hybrid electric version, launched in early 2021, which reduces CO2 emissions to 22g/km. They commented: “Versatile and spacious, with the RAV4 you get a lot of car for the money. In this segment, it’s the car of choice for fleets and their drivers.”

Economy was also key in their decision to give the Toyota the Best Plug-in Hybrid Car award. They reported: “Highly efficient, with an excellent EV-only range, the RAV4 also delivers outstanding economy in petrol mode thanks to its hybrid technology. It is spacious, with a high-quality interior, is packed with safety technology and is extremely reliable. A mid-size SUV for just seven per cent benefit-in-kind is an incredible offering.”

Stuart Ferma, General Manager Toyota and Lexus Fleet, said: “With these awards, RAV4 proves yet again what a formidable vehicle it is. Having reshaped the SUV market when it was first launched back in 1994, it has gone from strength to strength to become the world’s best-seller in its class. Today’s hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid electric versions offer exceptional benefits for fleet customers with emissions and fuel efficiency and proven quality, durability and reliability that translate into highly competitive running costs.

“It is also pleasing to see Proace City continuing to make an impact with its ‘highly commended’ reward. Its addition to the Toyota Professional light commercial vehicle line-up increases our reach in the UK LCV market.  Its status and fleet appeal will be further strengthened with the upcoming introduction of a pure electric version.”
