Toyota recognised as the “most influential hybrid car maker” in the EcoCar Electrified Top 50
Toyota has been recognised as the Most Influential Hybrid Car Maker in the 2024 EcoCar Electrified Top 50, an annual assessment of the UK market’s best hybrid and electric vehicles.
The honour reflects Toyota’s leadership in electrified vehicle technologies, established over more than a quarter of a century since the launch of the original Prius – the world’s first mass-market hybrid car. Since that first step, Toyota has sold more than 27 million electrified vehicles worldwide, which it calculates has saved around 176 million tonnes in CO2 emissions.
In its commitment to a carbon neutral future, Toyota is applying a multi-path technology approach to ensure as many people as possible are able to reduce their carbon footprint with accessible, practical and affordable mobility options. This includes advanced hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric and fuel cell electric powertrains, together with the development of hydrogen and carbon-neutral fuels, to minimise and ultimately eliminate vehicle CO2 emissions.
Iain Robertson, EcoCar Editor and Publisher, praised the “groundbreaking” achievement of Prius and Toyota’s expansion of hybrid technology to “span all of the major segments” with models such as Yaris, Yaris Cross, Corolla, the all-new Toyota C-HR and RAV4.
He said: “Not only are these vehicles environmentally responsible, they have given Toyota a solid reputation for reliability, with owners rating them highly in dependability surveys.”
Robertson also highlighted Toyota’s warrant programme of up to 10 years/100,000 as being symbolic of the company’s “firm commitment to customer satisfaction”.
“All of these factors made it a no-brainer to award Toyota the title of most influential hybrid car maker,” he concluded.
