Toyota Safety Sense Helps New Avensis Secure Five-star Euro NCAP Rating
The new Avensis has become the third successive generation of Toyota’s British-built model to secure a top five-star rating from the independent vehicle safety testing organisation Euro NCAP.
Launched earlier this year, new Avensis is equipped as standard with Toyota Safety Sense, a package of active safety and driver assistance features that have added to its extensive safety provisions and supported its impressive test results.
Avensis excelled in each of the test programme’s four categories, scoring 98 per cent for adult occupant protection, 85 per cent for child occupants, 78 per cent for pedestrian safety and 81 per cent for safety assistance features. Notably it received a maximum score for performance in the side barrier impact test, with good protection provided for all critical body areas.
Euro NCAP commended the performance of the autonomous emergency braking system, featured in Avensis’s Toyota Safety Sense package together with a Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beam, Lane Departure Warning and Road Sign Assist. More information about the functions and benefits of these can be found here.
Karl Schlicht, Executive Vice President Toyota Motor Europe, said: “We are very pleased with this result, which rewards our commitment to improve roadside safety and to make the latest technologies that contribute to this affordable and accessible for more customers.”
New Avensis joins Prius, Verso, Yaris, RAV4 and Auris in achieving five-star Euro NCAP ratings.
