Video: Toyota At The Future Car Challenge

24 November 2010

Toyota has released a video featuring highlights of its participation in the inaugural Brighton to London Future Car Challenge earlier this month.

The challenge, organised by the Royal Automobile Club, was designed to demonstrate the benefits of new engine technologies in saving fuel and reducing emissions. The event took place on 6 November, the day before the veteran car rally, and culminated in a grand public display bringing the ancient and modern machines together in London’s Regent Street.

Toyota has led the motor industry in developing and bringing hybrid power to the market and it showcased its achievements and its future ambitions by entering more than a dozen hybrid cars in the event.

The timing coincided with the 10th anniversary of the launch of the Toyota Prius in the UK and to help celebrate the occasion, all three generations of the world’s most popular hybrid – two million sales and counting – took part.

They were joined by the model that represents the next development of Prius, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

The Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle advanced (FCHV-adv), a vehicles that utilises the same core hybrid synergy drive (HSD) technology used in the Toyota Prius, made its UK debut at the event.

Toyota’s entry also included nine Auris HSD, the new British-built, full hybrid family hatchback that delivers an unmatched 74.3mpg and 89g/km CO2 emissions. The colourful liveried hybrids took part in Toyota’s own hybrid Nations Challenge, with teams from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland vying for fuel economy honours. Toyota’s team of drivers included leading motoring writers from around the UK and, at the wheel of a Union Flag-liveried Auris Hybrid, UK Electric Land Speed Record Holder Don Wales.
