Falklands war veteran Simon Weston OBE joins Toyota at the Motability Roadshow 2002 on Thursday 20 June to launch the extended Toyota Mobility range for 2002. Simon will be available for a photocall at 11.30am and for interviews throughout the day until 3.00pm.

The new Toyota Corolla and all-new people carrier Corolla Verso are now both available on the Toyota Mobility scheme for 2002. Simon, who is currently driving a Corolla Verso, with the latest D-4D direct injection common-rail diesel engine and five-speed manual transmission, will be on hand to discuss with visitors how disability need be no bar to mobility and independence.

“What disabled people want is something really practical like this,” said Simon. Standard features on the new car include front airbags, air-conditioning, ABS, remote central double-locking, immobiliser, sunroof, CD player and multiple rear-seat folding options.

A 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol-engined Corolla Verso is also available through Toyota Motability. The new Corolla hatchback is available in 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre VVT-i petrol engines as well as 2.0-litre D-4D diesel engines on the Motability Scheme.

A range of Toyotas on the Motability Scheme will be available for test drive which include the new Corolla “What Car? Car of the Year” winner, and the Toyota Yaris – recently voted top car from 144 models in the 2002 J.D. Power Customer Satisfaction Survey.

Visitors to the show can also see a number of other vehicles available on the scheme on the Toyota stand including the stylish RAV4, the flexible and practical Previa MPV, popular people carrier Avensis Verso seating up to seven, and the versatile mini MPV Yaris Verso.

The revolutionary petrol-electric hybrid Toyota Prius will also be on display for visitors to discover the practical and innovative technology. Adapted controls will be available on some Toyota road test models.

Toyota Mobility staff will be on hand to discuss the great offers available through Motability from Yaris S and GS at nil deposit to Corolla T2, five door at nil deposit.

Toyota Fleet General Manager Jon Pollock commented on the value of visiting the Mobility Roadshow: “People with special mobility requirements are not concerned exclusively with factors such as access and wheelchair stowage but with exactly the same things as every other driver – cost-effectiveness, reliability, safety, comfort and performance.

“The Mobility Roadshow aims to give anyone with a mobility problem the chance to see what is available and – most importantly – the unique opportunity to test drive adapted and conventional vehicles available within the Toyota range.”

The Mobility Roadshow is the world’s largest outdoor mobility event for disabled, older people and their carers. The Roadshow is open from Thursday 20 June until Saturday 22 June.
