Visit Toyota At British International Motor Show For All-New Land Cruiser UK Debut And Innovative Concept Cars

7 October 2002

Land Cruiser, the world’s most popular 4×4, makes its UK debut at the British International Motor Show from 23 October – 3 November. The all-new Land Cruiser model, on sale from early 2003, is aimed at the core of the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) market and replaces the Colorado model and can be seen on the Toyota stand, Hall 1, Stand 1150.

The new model features improved on-road handling while continuing to offer world beating off road performance as well as a higher quality interior matched to legendary reliability and durability.

New Land Cruiser offers customers enhanced driving pleasure, stylish design and premium levels of equipment and innovation. Its 3.0-litre D-4D turbo diesel puts Land Cruiser at the most powerful in its class while a new V6, 4.0-litre petrol engine (available from spring 2003) further enhances its appeal.

Innovative Concepts

Imagine a car that can achieve over 100mpg or a vehicle that blends hatchback, saloon and estate into one harmonised multi-cross body. Look no further than the Toyota stand where you can take a step into the future with two innovative concept cars, ES3 and UUV.

UUV (Urban Utility Vehicle)

The UUV (Urban Utility Vehicle) is a new generation of multi cross-over vehicle which blends the best characteristics of SUVs with other premium car values such as design, road behaviour, comfort and performance. Yet the overall effect is sleek and aerodynamic.

The UUV was created in Europe by Toyota’s European design centre (ED2). The target of UUV is a new type of customer – born of the urban environment but ready to be adventurous in their driving. These customers are looking for something different, powerful and innovative while still enjoying premium car equipment levels.

ES3 (Eco Spirit cubic)

The ES3 (Eco Spirit cubic) is a four-seat, lightweight vehicle that combines many of Toyota’s innovative environmental technologies, aimed at achieving low emissions, easy recycling and an ultra-high fuel efficiency of over 100mpg. To achieve optimum fuel economy, Toyota kept the ES3’s weight down to 700kg by adopting a body made largely of aluminium and resin and employing outstanding aerodynamic characteristics.

ES3 is equipped with a turbo-charged 1.4-litre direct-injection diesel engine combined with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). An “idling stop” mode, which automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped, and regenerative braking technology – both honed through Toyota’s development of hybrid vehicles – have been included to achieve higher efficiency.

2003 Models

Also at this year’s show, Toyota showcases its revised models for 2003 for the first time in the UK. The highlights include the luxurious Land Cruiser Amazon with advanced technology for more convenience and innovative improvements to security and revised MR2 Roadster now featuring a six-speed gearbox as standard and revised suspension for even sharper handling.

Revised for 2003, the Celica is available in four grades: Celica, Celica Style, Celica Premium and T Sport. All grades have an improved chassis and revised interior. Large diameter front brakes currently available on T Sport are now fitted as standard across the range.
