Yaris D-4D Achieves 116mpg In Land’s End To John O’ Groat’s Economy Run
Highly experienced driving instructor John Gough of Gloucester has achieved an incredible 116.1mpg in a fuel economy run from Land’s End to John o’Groat’s in a Yaris 1.4-litre D-4D. This figure is remarkable compared to the already frugal Government combined fuel consumption figure of 67.3mpg for Yaris D-4D S/GS three-door models.
John travelled the 881.8 miles using a little under eight gallons of fuel (7.59) costing just over £25* for the entire journey, leaving two gallons of fuel spare, enough to get him a quarter of the way home. Police authenticated the marathon attempt at the start and finish to ensure the fuel tank was sealed.
The economy run proves the fuel efficiency capability of the Yaris D-4D as well as setting an example to customers looking to save money and lessen their impact on the environment by burning less fuel. John maintained an average speed of 35-40mph while using sensible driving methods to achieve the most economical fuel consumption.
John’s top three tips for fuel-efficient driving are:
- Accelerate to your desired speed as soon as possible
- Maintain a constant speed wherever possible
- Try not to change gear unnecessarily or use excessive braking or acceleration
John’s next fuel economy challenge will take place on 15 September when he will attempt to break two records in the Yaris D-4D, firstly, the most miles on one litre of fuel and, secondly, the most miles on one gallon of fuel. Watch this space…
