Toyota announces the winners of the 2022 UK Dream Car Art Contest
Toyota’s annual UK Dream Car Art Contest attracted a bumper response this year, with more than 500 entries received, including newly eligible digital artworks. With the judging process complete, Toyota is pleased to announce the winners in each age group.
The judges were impressed by the number of entries that focused on how cars might be used as more than just a means of transport, helping to tackle some of the world’s wider social and environmental issues. Examples included an Animal School to help raise awareness of endangered wildlife in Africa, and a Petal Rescue Car to assist in disaster zones.
The competition invites children to come up with innovative ideas about what their dream future vehicle would look like, aligning with Toyota’s transition from a car manufacturer to a business dedicated to providing mobility for all, in many different forms.
The winners learned of their success in a virtual awards ceremony. Steve Backshall, TV adventurer, author and wildlife expert, joined Agustín Martín, Toyota (GB) President and Managing Director, and Darren Morris, Toyota (GB) Chief Financial Officer, to reflect on the quality of this year’s entries and announce the prizewinners. The gold award winners will each receive an iPad and the silver and bronze winners will be given a Samsung tablet. All finalists will be sent a Toyota goody bag and their entries will go forward to compete in the global final. Here they will have a chance of winning $5,000 (approx. £3,600) for themselves and $10,000 (approx. £7,200) for their school or college, for educational use.
Gold winners
The gold winner in the under-eight category is Betsy Bibby, designer of the Mobile Animal School, which helps to raise awareness and protect endangered animals in Africa.
First place in the eight to 11 category goes to Amelia Kan for the Car-terpillar, a vehicle made from recycled plastic and powered by fuel made from toxic waste and sewage water.
The 12 to 15 category gold winner is Muhammed Khan, who created the Toyota Saver Beaver Car. This helps impoverished communities suffering from the consequences of climate change.
