Pricing announcement puts Toyota’s GR Yaris on track for launch
- Pure-bred performance hatch will be priced from £29,995 on the road
- Customers can sign up for Toyota’s “keep me informed” service from this week
- All-new, bespoke performance model, developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing and drawing directly on its World Rally Championship-winning experience
The countdown has started for the launch the new Toyota GR Yaris, an all-new performance hatchback forged in the heat of the World Rally Championship. Despite its impressive pedigree as a pure-bred performance car, it carries a price tag that starts at less than £30,000.
UK customers will have the choice of two versions, GR Yaris and the GR Yaris Circuit Pack, with respective on-the-road prices of £29,995 and £33,495.
Specifications and further details will be announced later. Meanwhile, those keen to be among the first UK GR Yaris owners can sign up to Toyota’s “keep me informed” service for the new model, via their local Toyota centre or the toyota.co.uk website, prior to orders being accepted later in the year. First deliveries to customers are expected from November 2020.
The Toyota GR Yaris is not a tuned-up version of an existing car, but an authentic performance model in its own right, with a bespoke chassis and drivetrain. It has been developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing in partnership with Tommi Mäkinen Racing – Toyota’s partner in in its title-winning World Rally Championship campaign.
Powered by a new 257bhp 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, it is expected to deliver 0-62mph acceleration in less than 5.5 seconds – power and speed that are on a par with a larger (and more expensive) C-segment performance car.
It promises the handling to match thanks to its lightweight construction, specially developed platform, dynamic balance and new GR-Four intelligent all-wheel drive system. These sports-focused elements are key to its role as the road-going precursor of a future Toyota World Rally Championship competition car, reviving the spirit and excitement of competition homologation models of the past.
