Thanks to the hybrid technology, the new Aygo X has the lowest CO2 emissions of any non-plug-in car on the market*. With emissions of 85g/km and a lifetime carbon footprint reduced by 18 per cent, it achieves next levels of efficiency and usability. It also delivers more power, sharper acceleration and fun-to-drive handling with no compromise on style, comfort or quality.

Designed and produced in Europe, the Toyota Aygo X is a one-of-a-kind crossover in in its class and has proved enduringly popular, with more than 210,000 sales in the region since its 2022 introduction.

The new Aygo X, Toyota’s smallest full hybrid vehicle, makes the efficiency and enjoyment of hybrid driving more accessible than ever before. This reflects the company’s commitment to providing electrified options across all segments through its multi-pathway approach to carbon emissions reduction.

The Toyota Global New Architecture (TNGA) GA-B platform and the low positioning of the hybrid battery give the car a low centre of gravity and a highly rigid body, contributing to its agile handling. A confident driving position in a spacious cabin delivers the visibility and comfort of a larger vehicle, with all the cost efficiency of a small car.

Aygo X’s spontaneous “ready to go” attitude has been updated with an all-new frontal design that creates a premium look whilst emphasising the model’s signature condensed crossover stance. This is enhanced by new 17 or 18-inch machined wheels and black flared wheel arches.

For customers wanting a more dynamic drive and sporty look, a new GR Sport grade joins the Aygo X range for the first time. It features tuned suspension and steering, as well as distinctive visual updates.

The ‘mellow spice’ colour concept adds a distinctive touch, with Cinnamon, Jasmine, Tarragon, and Lavander shades which generate a modern appearance in tune with today’s customer tastes. A Mustard colour is exclusive to the GR Sport.

As an A-segment crossover, Aygo X gives customers the best of both worlds. It is practical yet playful, compact yet confident, efficient yet exciting, unique in the A- segment and offering an accessible gateway to electrified driving. UK model range specifications and sales details will be announced later, with customer deliveries expected around the turn of the year.

A hybrid breakthrough from Toyota

  • Europe’s first A-segment full hybrid builds on Toyota’s history as a technology pioneer
  • Toyota’s five best-selling models in Europe all now offer hybrid technology

As Europe’s smallest hybrid and the first in the A-segment, the new Aygo X marks another step in the evolution of Toyota’s hybrid technology – from ground-breaking trendsetter to amassing more than 31 million electrified vehicle sales globally.

The pioneering Prius blazed a trail for hybrid technology from its 1997 launch. Continuous technology and efficiency improvements over five generations have since enabled the electrification of an ever-wider range of vehicles. By introducing the electrified Aygo X, Toyota ensures that all its top-selling models in Europe – the Yaris and Corolla ranges, Toyota C-HR, RAV4 and Aygo X – now offer full hybrid powertrains, making electrified technology accessible across all the key market segments.

This progress has been made possible by improvements in thermal efficiency and the reduction in the size of components such as power control units, motors, and inverters. Advances in battery design, from early nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) to today’s lithium-ion technology, have allowed for smaller, more energy-dense units with reduced requirements for rare earth materials.

The new Aygo X features the same hybrid technology found in the latest Toyota Yaris. It delivers an energetic and exciting drive, with higher power and sharper acceleration than the previous generation.

Smart hybrid packaging

  • Front overhang extended by 76mm to accommodate the 1.5 litre engine
  • New longitudinal hybrid battery configuration
  • Hybrid technology brings upgraded electronics and improved air conditioning systems

Adapting Aygo X to accommodate the hybrid powertrain while preserving the model’s compact 2,430mm wheelbase, agile handling and 231-litre boot capacity required innovative packaging solutions.

To make room for the larger 1.5 litre hybrid engine, the front overhang has been extended by 76mm, without changing the car’s proportions. This new architecture also created an opportunity to refresh the frontal design with Toyota’s latest European design language.

For the first time in a Toyota, the two stacks of battery cells are positioned alongside each other across the width of the floor in a longitudinal lay-out under the rear seats. Other Toyota hybrids use a parallel configuration, which requires a longer space.

The battery’s cooling system also has a novel layout. The cooling fan, which is typically located directly next to the battery, is now located beneath the front of the rear seats. This new solution not only optimises cabin space, it also creates two cooling air flows to the battery.

Smart use of the available space also sees the auxiliary battery moved beneath the boot floor, allowing the hybrid system to be installed without compromising load space.

Integrating the electrified powertrain also required a new wiring system. This created an opportunity to introduce new electronics – including new electronic control units (ECU) – with no carry-over components from the previous model. As well as improved system performance and the integration of hybrid, this step also allowed for the introduction of a new seven-inch driver’s combimeter.

Furthermore, the packaging changes meant an improved air conditioning system could be installed in higher grade models.

Built on TNGA

  • TNGA GA-B platform revised to integrate hybrid components
  • New TNGA suspension components and five-bolt wheel hubs
  • Noise reduction via new damping measures

The Toyota Global New Architecture GA-B small car platform is foundation of the Aygo X, introduced with the original model in 2022 and now modified for the new generation. It enables nimble handling, a confident driving position and a low centre of gravity.

Although the GA-B platform is also used for Yaris, its rear section has been revised specifically for the new Aygo X. Its adaptability allowed for modifications to integrate hybrid and auxiliary batteries without compromising vehicle size or storage capacity.

Aygo X’s characteristic urban agility is retained thanks to updated TNGA suspension components, including anti-roll bars, springs and dampers, as well as new five-bolt wheel hubs. These maintain the vehicle’s manoeuvrability – as well as a 4.7m turning radius – despite an increase in mass.

These updates also improve ride comfort and contribute to a reduction in driving noise. Dashboard silencers, bonnet insulation and engine covers combine with an updated exhaust system and silencer to create a more peaceful journey. On higher grades, additional noise reduction measures include thicker window glass and additional soundproofing throughout the body.

Complementing the efficiency of the hybrid system, use of the TNGA platform also supports improved fuel efficiency by using the engine cover to improve underfloor aerodynamics and reduce the car’s drag coefficient.

Performance meets record-low emissions

  • 43bhp (44 DIN hp) maximum power increase, to 114bhp (116 DIN hp)
  • Class-leading CO2 emissions of 85g/km
  • Fuel economy rises to 76.4mpg (WLTP combined)
  • Lifetime carbon footprint reduced by 18 per cent compared to the previous generation

The efficiency and driving experience benefits of hybrid technology are complemented by a wider approach to sustainability to redefine what is possible in the A-segment.  As Toyota’s most accessible hybrid, the new Aygo X makes electrified motoring available to even more customers, proving once again that hybrid is an effective option for vehicles large and small.

The benefits of full hybrid technology create an ideal companion for city driving, with class-leading CO2 emissions of 85g/km, ensuring the car meets the challenge of low emission zones. Furthermore, notwithstanding the extra power, fuel economy is significantly improved, with 76.4mpg (WLTP combined).

More power makes longer drives more comfortable and less stressful. Producing 43 more bhp than the previous model, it delivers a maximum 114bhp (116 DIN hp) and can accelerate from 0-62mph in less than 10 seconds.

Full hybrid makes all-electric driving possible for extended periods in traffic, with no concerns about when or where the battery can be recharged.

Environmental issues are of increasing importance to new car buyers and Aygo X has been engineered with these in mind. Toyota estimates the lifetime carbon footprint of the vehicle has been reduced by 18 per cent compared to the previous generation model. The efficiency of the hybrid powertrain is the largest single factor, together with the car’s design and consideration of reducing carbon at every stage of vehicle production, distribution and use. For example, recycled plastic and fabric are used for novel seat materials such as the new SakuraTouch®. More than 40 per cent** of this material is made from plant-based PVC, derived from wood pulping by-products, as well as cork chip waste from the wine industry and recycled PET. This blend of animal-free materials reduces CO2 emissions during material production by 95 per cent compared to leather.

Additionally, newly adopted in-mould colour technology reduces CO2 emissions from the coating process compared to painting, with colour applied directly during the injection moulding of bodywork and interior panels.

Aygo X GR Sport

  • Shock absorbers, coil springs and power steering tuned to enhance handling
  • Exclusive “G-pattern” front grille design, GR Sport alloy wheels and Bi-tone+ colour scheme with black bonnet
  • Black and grey interior accents and GR logos

A GR Sport grade makes its debut in the Aygo X line-up, bringing a more engaging drive and a striking, sporty look. It takes inspiration from World Championship-winning Toyota Gazoo Racing motorsports teams to deliver a more fun and direct driving experience.

Tuning of the shock absorbers and coil springs enhances handling by reducing body roll, while the electric power steering is adjusted for sharper responses. While these measures are focused on a more exciting driving experience, ride comfort on city streets has been maintained.

The powertrain is unchanged, so the GR Sport benefits from the same sharper acceleration, improved power output and class-leading CO2 emissions as the other models in the range.

The eye-catching Bi-tone+ colour scheme includes a striking black bonnet and body-coloured accents at the base of the doors. It creates a bold first impression in the GR Sport-exclusive Mustard shade, with White Pearl and Storm Grey options also available.

The front grille adopts the “G-pattern” mesh, a signature of GR family vehicles. Exclusive machined alloy wheels emphasise the car’s assertive stance. A sporty cabin ambience is created by black and grey accents, plus GR logo embroidery.

Safety and driver assistance

  • Updated Pre-Collision System includes Pre-Collision Brake Assist
  • New Acceleration Suppression and Emergency Steering Assist features
  • Updated full-range adaptive cruise control

Safety is a priority for all Toyotas regardless of size. The new Aygo X continues to benefit from a best-in-class safety and driver assistance package, with Toyota Safety Sense technology provided as standard on all versions.

In addition to the regular Toyota Safety Sense features, an updated Pre-Collision System helps reduce the risk of accidents. Using front-mounted camera radar sensors, it has enhanced capability to detect motorcycles and oncoming vehicles or pedestrians at intersections. If the system calculates a risk of a collision during a turn, it automatically issues audible and visual alerts. In parallel, the Pre-Collision Brake Assist engages to provide extra braking force when the brake pedal is pressed. If the risk of a frontal collision is extremely high, the brakes are automatically applied.

Acceleration Suppression provides additional support, limiting sudden acceleration at low speeds when a collision risk is detected. The new Emergency Steering Assist responds in the event of a sudden manoeuvre to avoid an obstacle, by enhancing vehicle stability and preventing lane departure.

Road Sign Assist has been upgraded to allow a driver to adjust the speed limiter to traffic sign information at the touch of a button.

The adaptive cruise control is also upgraded with full range functionality for more relaxed highway driving. With one touch activation via a steering wheel button, the system maintains the desired speed and distance from cars ahead. It adjusts speed accordingly and bringing the vehicle to a complete stop as required.
