‘Time Travel, Mobile Libraries And Disco Balls’: Children Imagine Their Dream Cars In New Toyota Film

5 November 2019

To promote the 2020 Dream Car Art Contest, Toyota GB has brought the competition to life by talking to children about their cars of the future.

The Dream Car Art Contest is a global opportunity for children under 15 to show off their creative flair by drawing a picture of how the cars of the future might look.

The competition encourages children to design cars that focus on causes important to them, while still letting their imaginations run wild.

Presenting cars that can time travel, water plants and have an all-important disco button, the children filmed certainly didn’t disappoint.

Children from Lane Green First School in Wolverhampton were chosen to take part in the films. The children featured were from years 3 and 4 and aged between 7 to 9 years old. Toyota chose Lane Green for two reasons: the school has a history of teaching environmental awareness to its pupils and it is the Alma mater of a member of the Toyota GB social media team.

For the school, this was an opportunity to give the pupils a different kind educational experience by spending two weeks teaching them about car design and technology. To fire their imaginations, Toyota introduced them to its Mirai hydrogen fuel cell car.

They were also taught about the automotive design process before sketching their first drafts. Each child’s design criteria had an environmental focus, reflecting trends seen from entrants in recent years. An increasing number of children are designing their dream cars around wider topics such as mobility, helping other people and eco-friendly cars.

The Dream Car Art Contest is open now and entry forms can be downloaded at www.toyota.co.uk/dreamcar together with examples of previous winning designs and full competition terms and conditions. The closing date for entries is 20 January 2020.
