Toyota (GB) has received two honours in the prestigious 2022 Sport Industry Awards, in recognition of its work to help disabled people access sporting activities and its success in leveraging the company’s global sponsorship of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
At an awards ceremony on Thursday (12 May), it was named alongside the British Paralympic Association as winner of the Active and Wellbeing Award for its work on Parasport powered by Toyota, an online platform designed to make it easier for disabled people to find out about and take part in sporting activities in their area.
The company was also a first-time winner of the Brand of the Year award for its support for and work with Team GB and ParalympicsGB and initiatives that amplified Toyota’s global role as the Worldwide Mobility Partner of the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee.
Both awards reflect Toyota’s commitment to mobility for all, helping everyone in society enjoy the freedoms and opportunities that mobility can bring. Through its relationship with the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, it seeks to reaffirm the power of sport to bring people together and demonstrate that “when we move, we can achieve the impossible.”
Toyota launched Parasport powered by Toyota in 2019 as a new digital platform (parasport.org.uk) to connect disabled people with opportunities to get active, increase awareness of physical activities available for them; and empower disabled people and their networks by providing them with information, inspiration and confidence. It subsequently partnered with ParalympicsGB, Sport England and the Home Nations Disability Sports Organisations to set up the Toyota Parasport Fund to help provide training and equipment for clubs, activities and events for disabled people.
Tom Whiteside, Toyota (GB) UK Sponsorship Lead, said: “It is hugely rewarding to have our work recognised by the Sport Industry Awards. We are proud of what we have been able to achieve against a challenging backdrop, through impactful creative initiatives and campaigns faithful to our promise to use the Olympic and Paralympic platforms to make a positive societal impact. Our thanks, of course, go to all the partners and organisations who have helped us in this achievement.”
