Toyota invests in future talent with new management apprenticeship programme

11 April 2022

Toyota is continuing its commitment to investing in future talent with the launch of a Project Management Degree Apprenticeship programme for UK school leavers. The programme will enable apprentices to gain real life experience at Toyota (GB) PLC’s headquarters in Epsom, Surrey while studying for a degree.

The four-year apprenticeship is being offered in partnership with Northumbria University and is designed so that apprentices can divide their time between office work and virtual academic studies (hosted by QA Ltd at Northumbria University). Those taking part in the programme will be able to work towards their degree, develop their skills and begin to build their future career.

Toyota is looking for ambitious apprentices to help ensure the highest standards of work across its world-famous brands. It will provide tailored training and support, with benefits and career opportunities, both in the UK and internationally.

Luke Smith, Toyota (GB) Specialist, Talent Acquisition and Experience, said: “This is an opportunity for a school leaver to start their career with a major global player in the automotive industry while studying for a degree.  We are very proud of our Emerging Talent schemes and have many examples of team leaders and senior managers who started their careers as students or apprentices.”

The apprentices will work with Toyota’s Data and Insight team to develop project management skills to support improvement of the consumer experience for Toyota and Lexus in the UK.

The Project Management Apprenticeship is part of Toyota’s Emerging Talent Programme which aims to attract, cultivate and develop students who can become innovative, customer-focused leaders. The programme includes: degree apprenticeships, 12-month student placements and an 18-month rotational graduate programme

Dhruv Patel, from Leicester, who is currently on the Toyota apprentice scheme, commented: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to get hands-on training in the working world. I have seen how Toyota’s values are seen in the workplace and how this impacts business decisions. If you have the chance to get both a qualification and work experience, this will go a long way in setting yourself up for a successful career and life ahead of you.”

Hassan Mujtaba, from Crawley, West Sussex on the Toyota apprentice scheme said: “I applied for this apprenticeship because it gives four years of experience in data science with a degree while not paying university fees. In the last six months, I have gained technical and interpersonal skills such as confidence growth, presentation and communication skills and time management. Apprenticeships allow you to get ahead of your fellow students, gain invaluable skills that are guaranteed to be of use in future and help you start and build you career early and smoothly.”

Applications for apprenticeships are open until 15 April 2022. Registrations can be submitted online at: Toyota GB Project Management Degree Apprenticeship
