Auto Salon action

Toyota’s contribution to this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon, opening next Friday (12 January) includes presentations from Gazoo Racing and Lexus. Vehicles and parts will be displayed on the themes of customisation, motorsports and “beloved” cars, supported by talks with racing drivers and development engineers. Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda will take part in a morning press conference at the event. Read more here.

Carbon-neutral racing

Toyota continues to explore the potential of carbon-neutral power for motorsports with three cars successfully completing a 10-hour endurance race in Thailand on 25 December. The ROOKIE Racing team entered a GR86 CNF (carbon-neutral fuel) concept, a hydrogen -powered GR Corolla and a hybrid-electric Prius GR CNF concept. Read more here.

Seatbelt safety for pregnant women

A Toyota team has engaged in a project to confirm the safety of wearing a seatbelt when pregnant and identify potential design changes to improve performance. The group of four women and one man worked with Toyota’s Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC) in Michigan, USA, generating data to create three-dimensional computer models of pregnant bodies of different shapes and sizes. Future Toyota tech and products

Toyota presented a wealth of news about future technologies, products and manufacturing at its annual Kenshiki (forum) gathering in Brussels. The reveals included soon-to-be-launched new battery electric models and activities supporting progress towards zero-carbon mobility. Read more here.

Race and rally

This year will see the official competition debut of Toyota’s new rally car, the GR Yaris Rally2. The model has been officially homologated and will be offered to customers for entry competing in the second tier of the World Rally Championship and other national and local series. Read more here.

Meanwhile Toyota Gazoo Racing have confirmed the driver line-up for their defence of their clean-sweep of titles in the World Endurance Championship and the World Rally Championship. Read more here.
