Europe’s best car(s)

The all-new Yaris has won Europe’s top motoring accolade – European Car of the Year – repeating the feat achieved 21 years ago by the original Toyota Yaris. Meanwhile, its high-performance sister model GR Yaris has stormed off with the UK Car of the Year honour, adding to its unprecedented haul of honours. Read more here and here.

Hydrogen power system available “off-the-shelf”

Keen to see wider uptake of hydrogen power, Toyota has repackaged its fuel cell technology into compact modules that it will offer for sale to other manufacturers from spring 2021. The technology isn’t suitable for use just in cars – the module can be used for many other applications, such as trucks, trains, buses, ships and stationary generators. Read more here.

New city car confirmed

Toyota will build an all-new city car for European markets, using the same vehicle platform as new Yaris and the forthcoming Yaris Cross. To keep the new model within a price range accessible for customers, it will use an internal combustion engine. Read more here.

Woven City under way

The official ground-breaking ceremony has taken place for Woven City, a new, fully connected community Toyota is building at the foot of Mount Fuji. Home to people and scientists, it will be a living laboratory for new automated and robotics technologies and software-based mobility concepts. Read more here.

Moving the “woven” concept to the global arena, Toyota plans to issue Woven Planet Bonds, to help raise funds for projects that will support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Read more here.

Special car, special edition

There’s an exclusive new version of the 3.0-litre GR Supra on its way later this year, the Jarama Track Edition – named after the Spanish race circuit where the Toyota coupe was introduced to Europe’s motoring press. Read more here.

Reserve and Relax

It’s Toyota’s new way of buying a car that gives customers all the information, support and services they need while showrooms remain closed during the Covid restrictions.
