Toyota marks entry into The Olympic Partner programme will delivery of hybrid vehicle fleet
Toyota has marked its forthcoming membership of The Olympic Partner programme by delivering a fleet of Toyota and Lexus hybrids to the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland. The company will be working with the IOC, the Organising Committees of the Olympic Games and National Olympic Committees around the world to provide sustainable mobility, including intelligent transport, vehicle-to-vehicle communications and urban traffic systems, from 2017 through to the end of 2024. Prius takes safest car accolade
The independent test organisation Euro NCAP has named the Toyota Prius as the safest large family car to come under its scrutiny in 2016. The performance of its Toyota Safety Sense active safety systems – fitted as standard – was key to its success in the rigorous testing programme. Read more here.
User Experience concept lined up for Las Vegas electronics show
Calty, Toyota’s California design studio, will unveil a new concept model at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, showing how highly automated vehicles and robotics might be applied to the future relationship between vehicles and their occupants. Read more here.
Toyota back on the World Rally trail
Toyota has officially launched the car and driver line-up that will challenge for honours in the 2017 World Rally Championship. The new Yaris WRC was unveiled at a ceremony in Finland last week, attended by drivers Jari-Matti Latvala and Juho Hanninen. The first outing for the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRC team will be the Rallye Monte Carlo in January. Read more here.
Toyota and Daihatsu work on compact cars for emerging markets
Toyota and its wholly owned subsidiary Daihatsu have set up a new internal company tasked with producing compact cars for emerging markets. Read more here.
How big, how much?
The Center for Automotive Research (CAR) has crunched the numbers to determine the scale of Toyota’s contribution to the US economy. Headline findings include the fact Toyota employs more than 470,000 people – directly and indirectly – with a payroll that runs into billions of dollars. Seventy per cent of the cars it builds in the US are sold on the home market. Read more here.
Proace is pick of the LCVs
The new Toyota Proace medium duty van has been named LCV of the Year in the What Van? Awards. Judges hailed Proace as an “outstanding, innovative” van that “deserves to establish Toyota as a major player”. Read more here.
